Why drinks tip on a floating water mat— and what it actually takes to hold one steady

A lily pad doesn't fail because someone got careless — it fails because everything about it, the thin foam, the open water, a crowd's worth of footsteps, is built to keep moving. What people already try, and why it comes up short

The obvious fix is a float of its own, and none of the common ones hold up. Inflatable drink holders — the flamingo and palm-tree rings — get the same review pattern over and over: fine in a calm pool, but out here they need a hand kept on them or they tip, and the cheaper ones drift off in the first bit of wind and have to be swum after. Even makers who now sell "weighted" versions are conceding, by the existence of that upgrade, that the standard ones don't hold on their own.
